 Piercing Aftercare

Please remember that healing times can vary based on individual health and the type of piercing. Patience and care are key for a smooth healing process.

If you have any concerns or questions during the healing process, contact your piercer first for guidance. They may advise you on the healing process or refer you to your GP if necessary. In case of an emergency, seek medical attention immediately at your GP or local A&E.

Should you feel unsure about your piercing, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the studio or book a check-up appointment.

Thank you for choosing us for your new piercing! We hope you love it but it’s important to remember that your piercing has involved breaking the surface of your skin. While this process is generally safe, proper aftercare is essential to avoid any complications. By following the tips and advice in this leaflet, you’ll help ensure your piercing heals smoothly and reduces the risk of issues. We’re here to support you throughout the healing journey - don’t hesitate to reach out if you need assistance.

How To Clean Your Piercing

Wash, dry and sanitise your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing.

Spray the piercing front and back. Or thoroughly soak a cotton bud in saline solution and gently clean around the piercing.

Dry the piercing with a hairdryer on a cool setting or with a clean paper towel.

Do not twist or move the jewellery.

We only recommend using a sterile saline solution for cleaning piercings. This can be purchased from us in a spray bottle or from a pharmacy.

Things to Avoid

Other than when cleaning, avoid touching your piercing.

Try to avoid sleeping on your piercing or use a travel neck / piercing pillow.

Wait until your piercing is fully healed before changing the jewellery.

Try to avoid any fake tans, hair and beauty products coming in to contact with your piercing.

Avoid going swimming and using sunbeds for at least 4 weeks.

For oral piercings, avoid spicy food and chewing gum.

Downsizing

Many piercings are initially pierced with larger jewellery to accommodate for swelling. We recommend coming back to the studio for a check-up appointment to have your jewellery downsized. This is an important part of the aftercare process to avoid your piercing being caught or snagged, resulting in potential complications such as irritations, bumps or migration.

What’s Normal?

Some bruising around the piercing site. Piercings may bleed slightly at first and may happen a few times over the first few days. Bleeding should not be heavy or continuous, if this happens, you should seek medical advice. May be itchy, tender and slightly red for some time. Some piercings secrete a clear, odourless fluid, which can form a crust. This is part of the natural healing process.

Signs of Infection

Swelling and redness that is increasing around the site. A severe burning or throbbing sensation around the site. Increased tenderness and painful to touch. An unusual discharge (yellow or green) with an offensive smell.
